Since January 2014, the $1 billion gross revenue mark has been touched by only 16 non-gaming apps, as per the report, five of which, including Tiktok, have sailed past the $2.5 billion mark. Tiktok saw its greatest quarter-over-quarter growth in consumer spending in Q2 2021 since Q2 2020, when it rose to $534.5 million from $384.7 million, a jump of 39%. As for the stats on how well users are spending in the app, the report says that consumer spending in TikTok has now gone past $2.5 billion globally. The downloads did go down by 38% YoY from about 619 million in the first half of 2020, caused majorly due to removal from India’s app stores, but consumer spending rose in that period by 73%. Last year, the Indian government said it was banning 59 apps developed by Chinese firms, including ByteDances TikTok and PUBG Mobile over concerns. Despite being banned in multiple countries, India included, the app’s popularity does not seem to wane. TikTok becomes most downloaded non-gaming app. So, now you know what apps they are: WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Till now, only three other apps have been able to reach the milestone and all of them are owned by Facebook.
